A brief introduction of West China School of Public Health, Sichuan University
West China School of Public Health, Sichuan University is one of the most famous academic institutes in the field of Public Heath in China, and its history can be dated back to 1914 when the course group of Public Health was set up in “West China Union University”, and in 1936 the course group was developed into “Public Health Department”. In 1951, it was renamed as “Public Health Department” of “National West China University”; and in 1986, “School of Public Health” of “West China University of Medicine Science” was established. In 2000, the original West China University of Medical Science was combined with Sichuan University, and this school was renamed as “West China School of Public Health” of “Sichuan University”.
After about 100 years’ development, the school now comprises the academic school (including 6 departments), the West China Training Center for Health Administrators of Sichuan University, and the No. 4 West China Hospital (occupational disease prevention and treatment special hospital).
The six department include: Epidemiology and Health Statistic; Environmental Health and Occupational Health, Nutrition and Food Hygiene; Health Inspection and Quarantine; Health and Social Behavior; Health Policy and Management.
The West China Training Center for Health Administrators of Sichuan University was set up in 1982, and has taken on various training work for all levels of health administrators. This center is one of the members of “Health Economy Research and Training Network” which was established by Ministry of Health of China, Ministry of Finance of China, and the World Bank.
West China Fourth Hospital,Sichuan University was established in 1974. It is a specialized hospital in preventing and treating occupational diseases, and geriatric diseases, especially for osteoporosis and palliative medicine. It is a center for occupational disease prevention, and a training base for occupation health and disease physicians.
